Sir

I have received a letter I believe from your department2. I am unable to read German but a friend has told me its purport and it is such as to require my very sincere & humble thanks. To give you an account of my engagements and honors would be really out of my power[.] I therefore take the liberty of enclosing such mention of them as is placed upon the list of the Fellows of the Royal Society of London3 and think that will be abundantly sufficient to meet your wishes[.]

I have the honor to be | Sir | Your Obedient humble Servant | M. Faraday
