Faraday to James Timmins Chance   1 November 1860

[Royal Institution embossed letterhead] | Royal Institution | 1 Novr. 1860

My dear Sir

Yesterday afternoon I caught the Deputy Master1. He sanctions the Experiment with the dioptric panel and also the delay of the Smalls apparatus, not unnecessarily but for the two or three weeks. That light will be 125 feet height. I have not yet sat down to the diagram. When the S Whitby light is finished you will let me know. The N Whitby light remains I think until next season[.]

I found that the Trinity house had printed my last report2 without telling me - so that there are errors of the press. Being without the previous reports it reads to me imperfect. I send you a copy however & I also send the 1st and 2nd report3 that you may see how they hang together:- Return me the two latter.

Ever Truly Yours | M. Faraday

J.T. Chance Esq | & &c &c
