Faraday to Paolo Volpicelli1   7 September 1861

London | Royal Institution | 7 Septr. 1861.

My dear Chevallier

I know your kindness towards my nephew Mr Buchanan for he has spoken of it with a grateful heart2. I hear he is in some trouble with his workmen one of whom has attempted to assas[s]inate him. I hope if you see him and perceive that he wants advice in his manner of dealing in this matter & with his men that you will do me the great favour of guiding & cautioning him. I cannot judge at this distance of the cause of the difference or assault but I hear it is before the authorities & so presume you will know more of it than I do.

Ever My dear Chevallier | Your faithful Servant | M. Faraday

The | Chevallier Volpicelli | &c &c &c &c

Paolo Volpicelli (1804–1879, P3). Secretary of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, 1847–1877.
