Faraday to George Herbert   21 September 1861

Royal Institution | 21 Septr. 1861.

Sir

As the adjustments of the lime light will all be made (or were made) by the 17th instant and as a week of observations will be completed on the 24th1 I shall be glad to visit the light as soon as possible. I therefore propose to go on Wednesday the 25th in time to take a fly to the lighthouse that night and see the light burning. On the next day & evening I must be there and perhaps (if needful) the day after[.] The Elder Brethren may not wish to be there so long and therefore I mention these probabilities. If I do not go at latest next week on the Thursday I would rather defer the visit until the following Monday: but the longer we delay the more chance is there of the weather coming on wet & bad: and the moon will I think do very well next week[.]2

I am | Sir | Your Very Obedient Servant | M. Faraday

Geo. Herbert Esqr | &c &c &c
