George Biddell Airy to Faraday   22 October 1861

Royal Observatory, Greenwich, | London, S.E. | 1861 October 22

My dear Sir

Shame on me that I have left a note of yours so long unanswered!1

I would willingly be excused from giving a lecture from this time to the end of my natural life. But I owe you one, and I will if possible discharge my debt on April 11.

But then comes the old difficulty - what shall be the subject?

I hope that something may present itself before April; at this moment I see nothing.

I am, my dear Sir, | Yours very truly | G.B. Airy

Professor Faraday
