This was the Carus Prize Foundation of the Academia Caesarea Leopoldino-Carolina, Breslau, of which Faraday was a member (Esenbeck to Faraday, 15 December 1857, letter 3366, volume 5). See Medical Times, 7 January 1865, p.26-7.
