From William Odgers   3 September 1869

Chief Secretary's Office

Melbourne 3rd September 1869.

Sir

With reference to your letter of 11th August1 I have the honor to request by direction of the Chief Secretary that you will endeavor to procure the seeds of Eucalyptus Globulus and Eucalyptus Sideroxylon2 as opportunity offers and cause them to be carefully packed for transmission to Simla. The entire quantity of these seeds applied for by the Government of India you are aware is 30 lb. of the former kind and 20 lb. of the latter; but in order that the seed may reach its destination in the best possible condition it seems advisable to forward by each monthly mail steamer whatever quantity you have been able to procure without waiting to send the whole at once.

I have also to request you will be good enough to furnish some concise instructions as to the best manner of cultivating the seeds as well as any other information that you think likely to be of use to the Government of India.3

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

Your obedient servant

W. H. Odgers
