The pieces of wood will have no value for you, so I ask you to let your great neighbouring xylographer, Professor Nördlinger in Tübingen have them.

The Reverend Cambridge also works on Australian spiders.8

MS is a list written by one of M's assistants. On the back is a draft of a letter by Krauss reporting the state of the collection upon its arrival in Stuttgart; see F. von Krauss to M, 13 December 1879.

MS annotation by Krauss: 'erhalten den 3. Dec.' [received 3 December].

MS annotation by Krauss: 'Macropus laniger'.
MS annotation by Krauss: 'Halmatur. nemoralis ♂'.

The file includes, on a separate sheet, notes by Krauss as follows:

von der Sendung N. 2889

erhalten v. F. v. Müller Dec. 1879

Vögel:

a) Behalten aus Neu Guinea? (viele aus Malakka, Java, Sumatra &c &c)

42 Stück in 36 Spec.

Davon nicht in d. Sammlung 10 Spec.

Die übrigen zur Vervollständigung.

b) Doubletten 21 Stücke in 19 Spec.

c) unbrauchbar 16 St. in 15 Spec. durch Seewasser

unter a) befinden sich einige sehr schadhafte z. Theil ohne Füsse.

[Of the collection No. 2889

received from F. von Mueller, December 1879.

Birds:

a) Keep from New Guinea? (many are from Malacca, Java, Sumatra &c &c)

42 specimens in 36 species.

Of these not in the collections 10 species.

The rest for completion [i.e. of the Stuttgart Museum collection].

b) Duplicates 21 specimens in 19 species.

c) useless 16 specimens in 15 species through sea water.

Under a) are several badly damaged, partly without feet.]

The list to this point is embraced by a large bracket with an annotation in the same hand as the remainder of the MS: 'for Prof. Dr. Krauss'.
West. Australia placed in parentheses and an annotation added by Krauss: 'K. Georges Sound nach Brief v. 28/4. 79' [King George Sound according to letter of 28 April 79]. See M to F. von Krauss, 28 April 1879 (in this edition as 79-04-28a).
The following sentences, in M's hand, are on a separate piece of paper and may be unconnected with the list. However, the reference to wood specimens for Nördlinger suggests a link between the two documents.
Octavius Pickard-Cambridge. M sought news of spiders, that he had evidently sent to Germany, in M to F. von Krauss, 30 January 1880 (in this edition as 80-01-30a).
